The War is Not Over

Chuck Pierce with friends: "THE WAR IS NOT OVER--Prayer Focus From Israel"

posted by Chuck Pierce

Below is the latest prayer focus for Israel, from our intercessors in Jerusalem. Prayer Warriors, please join us in this prayer focus--let's continue to pray for the destiny of this nation in this critical time.

Blessings,

Jerusalem: "Prayer Focus From Israel"

"THEREFORE HUMBLE YOURSELVES UNDER THE MIGHTY HAND OF GOD, THAT HE MAY EXALT YOU AT THE PROPER TIME." I Peter 5:6

"YOUR COUNTRY IS DESOLATE; YOUR CITIES ARE BURNED WITH FIRE; STRANGERS DEVOUR YOUR LAND IN YOUR PRESENCE; AND IT IS DESOLATE, AS OVERTHROWN BY STRANGERS." Isaiah 1:7

"AND I WILL TURN MY HAND UPON THEE, AND PURELY PURGE AWAY THY DROSS, AND TAKE AWAY ALL THY TIN." Isaiah 1:25

The Current Damage

It appears that the Hand of the Lord is indeed heavy upon Israel at this time. We are perilously balanced in a tenuous "ceasefire" of a war which we did not begin, nor have we won. This is a war in which 116 Israeli soldiers and 43 civilians have died, thousands have been injured, 300,000 Israelis displaced from their homes. This is a war in which 4,000 rockets have rained down upon our cities and fields, damaging or destroying some 6,000 homes, and scorching 20,000 acres of forest and pasture lands including 750,000 hand-planted trees (it is estimated that it will take 50-60 years for the northern forests to return to what they were two months ago). Israel still has thousands of soldiers in Lebanon; we have not affected the return of the kidnapped soldiers or disarmed Hezbollah, both of which we swore to do.

As in the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Israeli soldiers soon found themselves facing an abundance of ground weapons against which they had not been trained. The present reserve soldiers (many of whom fought valiantly under excruciating circumstances), are demonstrating; calling for the removal of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. They feel that they and their military leaders were betrayed, and hindered from victory by indecisive and inept civilian leadership.

An inquiry is in the process of being set up regarding the handling of the war; a war no thinking person (at least Israeli person) can believe is really over. In the meantime, there is a growing sense that Israel may eventually feel compelled to "go it alone" so far, as curbing Iran's growing nuclear threat. A "senior source" was quoted in Thursday's Jerusalem Post, as saying, "The Iranians know the world will do nothing; this is similar to the world's attempts to appease Hitler in the 1930s--they are trying to feed the beast."

Alas, that is not all...

The title of the weekly Torah portion (Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9), that was read in synagogues this past Sabbath was "Shophetim" -- "Judges." It begins, "You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you...and they shall judge the people with just judgment...You shall follow what is altogether just, that you may live and inherit the land which the LORD your God is giving you."

This week, Israel's Minister of Justice, Haim Ramon, stepped down from his office under investigation of a charge of indecent sexual assault, and Israeli President Moshe Katsav, was questioned by police regarding charges of sexual harassment of an employee. He is also under investigation for improprieties in the execution of his powers to issue pardons. As evidence mounts, there is growing expectation that he will either resign or become the first Israeli President to face impeachment.

Many Thankful Blessings

We are not unthankful for the blessings of the past month and a half. The enemy was hurt--Hezbullah leader, Nasrallah, who had no idea that Israel would respond so forcibly; his forces have been greatly damaged, and much of his long-range rocket arsenal destroyed.

Our soldiers, both on active duty and in the reserves, equipped themselves with courage. There were other acts of heroism among the Jewish, Arab, and Druze volunteer fire-fighters in the north, and among volunteers who cared for the thousands of displaced families in the south. And in the spiritual war which accompanied the physical, we have first-hand reports of believing soldiers praying aloud and unashamedly during battle, being asked by their comrades to pray for them, sharing their faith in Yeshua.

In this war, there were certainly many more believing soldiers than in any earlier conflict in Modern Israel. And the Body in Israel mobilized to pray and to assist those in northern Israel, and funds were collected and funneled to the Christian community in Lebanon.

The War is Not Over

The war is not over. God has said that He will win this war. Israel can, and we believe will, be used by Him to bring a great victory. But at present, His hand is upon us and we are not asking for it to be removed. The phrase "Seek My face and not My hand," has become common in some Christian circles in recent years. It is true, without the Light of His face upon us, we won't be saved (Psalms 80:3, 7, 19). But we also must not avoid the Hand of severity which brings purging and purification.

We believe that God is showing us ourselves. We have been proud and boastful about "What we would do" at the beginning of this conflict, yet we have failed in our boasts. And in the height of crisis, weakness at our center is being exposed which, as one analyst puts it, "Encapsulates all that is ill about a political system that has lost its moral compass and become rotten to the core."

PRAYER FOCUS--PLEASE PRAY:

1. That God's hand of love and severity would purge away dross and take away alloy. That those in Israel's government and military, who have abused and betrayed their trust, would be removed and replaced with leaders of righteous judgment.

2. That believers in the land would also endure the purging, and be purified and fitted for the service in which we have been destined to stand.

3. That Israel would awaken to the truth that "Righteousness exalts a nation," and be stirred to desire and elect leaders of integrity and high standards of morality.

4. That many Israelis would begin to realize that it is not by our sword that we win the land, nor does our arm bring us victory, but it is God's right hand, His arm, and the light of His face, for He loves us (Psalm 44:1-3).

5. That Israel will humble herself, so that God can exalt her for a time of increased conflict which looms ahead.

6. That Elohei-Israel (The God of Israel), who loves His Land, will bless it and restore what has been destroyed. For revelation and counsel to the leaders of the Jewish National Fund and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, in how best to go about replanting the vast areas which have been burned.

7. For believing soldiers to be strengthened in their "inner man" by grace, and become more and more deeply equipped in the service of the Captain of the Armies of the Lord (Joshua 5:14). Pray for the many secular Israeli soldiers who were touched last month; pray that they will seek and find their true Captain and Savior.

8. For Godly judges to be raised up and put in place in Israel; pray for men and women of wisdom and integrity and the fear of the LORD. Pray for those young believing Israelis whom God is right now raising up for that purpose!

"AND I WILL RESTORE THY JUDGES AS AT THE FIRST, AND THY COUNSELORS AS AT THE BEGINNING: AFTERWARD THOU SHALT BE CALLED 'THE CITY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, THE FAITHFUL CITY.' ZION SHALL BE REDEEMED WITH JUDGMENT, AND HER CONVERTS WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS." Isaiah 1:26-27

In Messiah,
Jerusalem
