Sept 5, 2006: Surf's up in Israel
R&R on the Med
Jerusalem:
The other day I took some much-needed time out to go to the beach with some friends. After all, what good is it sitting in a windowless recording studio all week? Any decent Messianic Praise & Worship Reggae album requires a day at the beach once in awhile.
Well, wouldn't you know it, a famous Bible translator came along with his surfboard, and, you guessed it, I got to take the board out on the waves! Amazing - I actually got standing-up vertical on the board. Sorry, no pic; my friends got bored waiting for me to stop sloshing around in the undertow so apparently they slacked off on the camera-shutter duty.
So there I was on the Mediterranean sea of Israel, in the city of
Herziliya which is named after Theodore Herzl (who, oddly enough, was not named after Herz rent-a-car). Herzl organized the First Zionist Congress in 1897 in Basle, after which he wrote in his diary, "Were I to sum up the Basle Congress in a word- which I shall guard against pronouncing publicly- it would be this: 'At Basle, I founded the Jewish State. If I said this out loud today, I would be answered by universal laughter. If not in 5 years, certainly in 50, everyone will know it.'" In 1947, 50 years later, Israel's War for Independance began - and announced themselves to be a nation among the community of nations in May 1948. So, this beach city is named after him.
Well anyway. That's our history lesson in surfing class for the day. Now, everyone get your board, and back in the water!
But first, 2 more pics: What happens in Israel when a dead seagull washes up on the beach?
(2-part answer)

1) Bring out the Big Green Beach Tractor!
2) Scoop 'er up, and toss 'er in the trailer!
Who says Israel responds with overwhelming proportions?
Hey, it's all about being prepared for any and every situation...
Blessings,
Teddy Chadwick
