A Little Refresher on Hizb'Allah
(aka hezbollah, hizbollah, hizbullah, huzbollah, hizbalah; Arabic for "party of god")

The south of Israel is under attack from the Gaza region, supported by most Arab states. Ever since Israel's "disengagement" from Gaza last summer (removing Israeli civilian residents, business owners and farmers against their will) the rockets have continued to fall on Israel's towns and villages every day. This is conducted by the Palestinian terror groups: the PLO, Hamas, the Palestine Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine and the popular resistance Committees.

Hizb'Allah (Arabic: "party of god") is firing missiles into Israel from the northern border, in Lebanon. For this article, we will focus on the North and Hizb'allah.

Currently, Hizb'Alla is supplied by Syria and the non-Arab but also Islamic Iran. In the early morning hours on October 23, 1983, Iran-backed Hizb'Allah drove a truck full of explosives into a US Marines barrack, killing 241 Americans in their sleep. A court determined that the Marines were engaged in a proper peace-keeping mission according to peacetime rules of engagement.

In 2002, U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth served 2 suits against Iran for this attack. He said that the 1983 attack was "the most deadly state-sponsored terrorist attack made against United States citizens before September 11, 2001."

The judge concluded that Hizb'Allah was created by the Iranian government, completely dependent on Iran in 1983 and worked with the Iranian Ministry of Information and Security agents in carrying out the operation.

Judge Lamberth's assessment agrees with that of J.Cofer Black of the State Department. J. Cofer Black, the U.S Department of State Coordinator for Counterterrorism from 2002-2004, when asked at a press conference in 2004 by an A.P. reporter about the greatest international terror threat, said:

"Thank you very much. The answer to your question is in particular from the American perspective, if I can be allowed that. Before 9/11 the terrorist group that had killed more Americans actually was Hezbollah and with the catastrophic attacks of 9/11 Al-Qaeda moved up in that deplorable category as having killed more Americans."

This massive unprovoked terror attack against Americans was significant; It led to the Reagan Administration's pullout from Lebanon with not a little embarassment for the US. Of course, this pullout didn't help things much -- Hizb'allah has only gotten bolder. After Israel's pullout a couple of years ago, Hizb'allah has simply built up an arsenal along Israel's border, preparing to attack.

So they say Israel's recent incursion into Lebanon to stop Hizb'allah is simply revenge for the POW's captured just weeks ago... Or is it? What about the terror organization's buildup of the past few years? More likely Hizb'allah, backed by Iran and Syria, has been preparing for this current war for quite some time.

Interesting sidenote:
Psalm 83 vs. 1983: Archeologists are now researching an ancient Bible manuscript discovered in Ireland in the third week of July. It was discovered in the mud by a construction worker with his backhoe, and discovered opened up to Psalm 83. This is the Psalm that speaks about what God plans to do to nations who say "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance." Oddly enough, the year was '83 that Hizbollah blew up the American marines in Lebanon leading to the American Pullout.

No name is above the Name of YESHUA. Not the name of any other king, nation, or terror organization. There is only ONE TRUE GOD and the whole world will learn this lesson one day. Let's pray for the salvation of people groups in Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Israel, and so on. JESUS is the Winner!
